For those looking to work in period Dramas (like Bridgerton), Fantasy Epics (Lord of the Rings anyone?), Biopics (Robbie Williams Biopic is filming in Melbourne this year), or simply those looking to move to the UK and work in Film & TV, mastering the RP (Received Pronunciation) accent is crucial.
In this seven week online course, Helen will discuss the etymology of the accent, how it lives and breathes in you, the actor. You will learn that it isn’t just different vowel sounds that make a dialect, and how to connect your accent to your breath and body, and develop vocal traits that can aid the particular character you are playing.
This course is a must if you are looking to work in the UK.
Course Outcomes:
Develop an understanding of accents and tune your vocal instrument
Learn the key indicators of the RP accent
Learn to relax and perform true to yourself while maintaining your accent
Group tutoring on your own unique RP accent
Practicing your accent with scenes and monologues, with feedback from Helen
Course Structure:
Background knowledge on the vocal instrument and the phonetic alphabet
Foundation work on body, breath, resonance, projection, pitch and rhythm for the General American accent
Articulation exercises and other techniques to warm up and prepare your vocal instrument for the much more ‘active’ RP accent (when compared to the Aussie drawl)
Scene and monologue work with materials from plays, Film and TV to practice your new accent.
