Maurice is a talented individual who's passion for film and storytelling does not pass unnoticeably.

After completing the Full Time Program at TAFTA he signed with his first agency immediately. He then ventured off to produce and act his first successful 5 episode production, Bunchee. You can check out the first episode here or at the bottom of this article.

He is currently working closely with writers, directors and producers and other film industry experts on 3 new romance, drama and comedy films he looks to release in 2021. His main focus is acting and he is a strong believer that hard work will eventually pay off.

1. What steps have you taken to keep creative during isolation?

I guess the first step towards a production is a story and with that story, you have the ability to turn it into a beautiful masterpiece. The next step was I outsourced a very talented writer from L.A who I have been working closely with for the last two months. We're working together on a true story of a romance that I have pieced together. So I planted the seed and we began working on this component for the film.

Since we have all the time in the world, I decided to keep productive, organise all the behind scenes workloads and finally get this piece ready for the film day.

2. How important is collaboration to you? Do you have a group of actors that you work with consistently?

During the early stages of my career, I believe collaboration was and still is extremely important. You get to work. That's it. The more you work, the better you are on camera.

But working with someone you enjoy working with well.. that just makes the process a helluva lot better doesn't it? You're not only creating film but you're doing it with passion with that person.

Yes, I have friends from school that I collaborate with. School is important because it doesn't just teach you how to act, but it gives you a starting foundation that is extremely important.

3. What's the best advice you've received?

You can take your time waiting for that phone call or you can get up and get it done yourself. The longer you wait, the longer your career waits.

This wasn't the advice I've received, but it's advice I give myself daily.

4. Where do you draw inspiration from?

I channel inspiration from several outlets starting with my hard working parents, in particular, my mum. I also love seeing my friends and others succeed and with this energy, I draw inspiration from it.

I like to see the world win, and when I win I believe others who are attached to my projects are winning and this in itself inspires me to do what I do and lead my teams to the top.

5. Coming into acting from the events industry - what skills have you taken from your previous jobs into your acting career?

Organisation, team dynamics and social skills. I realised after getting into the industry, just like any other industry, you must get the job done yourself before you are even noticed as an actor.

The hard work is always at the beginning. So, organising my own productions is a big job and game day is entirely reliant on all the work that is prepared prior to that shoot date from organising casting, locations and on-day scheduling to managing a lineup of casts and weekly meetings with directors and other co producers.

Being a social bug, you can meet and network with other passionate professionals that will not only help your career but vice versa and I think that is very important to want to support other professionals in the industry. If you're in it for yourself, you won't get far.

Thanks for reading. If you're thinking about becoming an actor or anything of the arts related, never give up. That's my advice to you because one day you'll notice that yesterday will give you knowledge and tomorrow will give you opportunity as long as you make it to tomorrow and follow my two basic principles.

1 - work. 2 - Never give up.
