The camera offers the actor a fantastic gift. It is your teacher, your critic, your best friend, your greatest collaborator and your greatest enemy.

The camera has changed not only what we see but, how we see it.

This intensive, FREE workshop examines aspects of on-camera performance WITHOUT resorting to antiquated techniques, designed essentially for the theatre. This is not a standard so-called “camera class” – but a modern approach to acting where the visual dominates the verbal and dispels the myth of minimization, the absurd “less is more” concept, the fallacy of “playing the subtext” and much more.

The modern actors’ needs and the expectations from that actor, by Producers and Directors alike, vary greatly from those of a hundred years ago, so WHY do most major and minor training institutions cling to ancient methodologies? In this modern world we no longer have the luxury of extended rehearsal times and traditional character exploration and development has disappeared.

In Film & TV land: “Time is money”.

In fact the very concept of character as belonging to the 20th century no longer exists. The modern actor is expected to deliver without notice. Old fashioned approaches and training methods don’t cut it any longer. Like athletes, the modern actor has to be lean and mean carrying no baggage and be able to perform at maximum intensity, delivering with immediacy, the demands of the narrative.

This requires a different approach and a different kind of actor for whom Stanislavsky and his derivatives are now merely an historical curiosity.

This will be a 2 hr session and will include 10 ACTIVE participants. They will be chosen on a first “book in” basis.
